Athens parking permit program gets going

A new pilot program makes it possible for Greek capital residents to obtain a special permit allowing them to park on certain streets for up to 72 hours

Many discussions of creating a parking pass have been in the works for many years, but no progress had been made until this big step forward made now. Now residents can only have one pass per street address, and they will still lack any permanent parking if a street lacks available space.

The pilot program is a good first step that could hopefully open avenues for new solutions in the future. Residents may submit applications for a fee of $25 and those who meet the criteria can pick those passes up from the Code Enforcement office. The positive aspect of the measure is that renters or buyers can apply also because applicants must have one or no offstreet parking spaces on their property to be eligible.
