Azuqueca opens leisure and therapy space for people with functional diversity

On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities

On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, this Tuesday, December 3, the so-called 'Sensation Space' opened its doors in Azuqueca de Henares. The Spanish town hall claims to be the first City Council that offers this service, which combines leisure and therapy, to people with functional diversity.

“We want Azuqueca to be increasingly inclusive and more adapted," said mayor José Luis Blanco at the opening ceremony. "We know that we have a long way to go, but we want to take small steps like this every day" he continued. He also expressed his gratitude for the collaboration and support received from all the professionals who work every day for the persons with functional diversity.

Social spending – an investment in autonomy and independence

The mayor also congratulated the Councillor for Equal Opportunities, Piedad Agudo, for "assuming and turning this project into reality in record time." The budget of 18,000 euro, he described as an investment, not an expense that makes it so that children with functional diversity can improve their autonomy and independence.

The “Sensation Space” thus combines elements of game, projections, music and vibration. A bubble tube with pedestal, a keypad, a ball pool, aromatherapy, mirrors, a projector, a tactile sensory kit are some of the elements installed.

Several boys and girls participated in the opening where the manifesto of December 3 of CERMI (Spanish Committee of Representatives of Persons with Disabilities) was read. In the document they requested more work to be done for people with disabilities; for aid and services which shall guarantee them a decent and autonomous life, for communication campaigns to be carried out that explain the value of people with disabilities and finally - to end bullying.

Later, Caminando presented the murals prepared by the association on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
