Barcelona inaugurates a centre dedicated to the LGBTI community

A pioneering space for sexual and gender diversity opens doors in the Catalonian capital this week

A new centre dedicated to the LGBTI community of the city opens doors in Barcelona. The municipal facility which will be inaugurated this week is managed by the Platform of LGBTI Entities of Catalonia and aims to offer guidance and personal attention, to give voice of the artistic expression and collective action of the community. In addition to the services related to information, orientation and personal attention, the centre strives to be a space for artistic expression and for vindication of the historical memory of the LGBTI movement, in which the long struggle of this collective for the recognition of their rights is reflected.

The LGBTI Centre of Barcelona is located on Comte Borrell Street, number 22, and wants to be an open space, inclusive and connected to the reality of the neighbourhood that hosts it. Here is why the open day coincides with the Sant Antoni Festival. The opening will be marked on Saturday, January 19 with festivities and a programme suitable for all audiences. From 11.00 am to 10.00 pm the new centre the section of the Comte Borrell Street between the streets of the Parliament and Marquès de Campo Sagrado will be filled with musical performances, family activities and creative performances.

The interior spaces of the centre will host a series of artistic interventions through which different creators will invite you to reflect on issues as diverse as personal identity, community creation or historical memory. In addition, the artists will give visibility to the historical struggle that the LGTBI movement has carried out to recognize their rights, emphasizing the challenges that this group still has to face today.

After the official opening, which will start at 12:00 a.m. on the stage of Carrer del Comte Borrell, the artistic collective Art i Part will present the participative performance Eixam i rauxa, which can be seen again at 6.30 p.m. From 13:30, the music of DJ Dgeral will invite you to dance. In parallel, several children's workshops will be held, in collaboration with the FLG (Association of LGTBI Families), so that everyone can participate in the party, regardless of age.
