The route will adapt to the passengers’ needs and not vice versa
Starting today, 12 September, a new public transport service will operate on the streets of Barcelona – an on-demand bus line, which will first unroll for a trial period of six months before evaluation. The line is called elMeuBus Torre Baró Sud – Vallbona Sud, and as its name shows it will be available in Nou Barris – the northernmost district of the Catalan capital.
The line will replace the previous line 180, incorporating the advantages of on-demand local transport, such as the ability to adapt to the needs of citizens while offering an efficient and sustainable service.
The new system has 34 stops but, unlike regular lines, users have to inform in advance of the points and time they want to be picked up and dropped off. In this way, the service offers flexibility that allows it to be adjusted to the convenience of the passenger. The stopping points are distributed in such a way that they bring residents closer to the main facilities and services in the neighbourhoods.
This flexibility and efficiency of elMeuBus (which means My Bus) are achieved thanks to an intelligent system that matches the various requests for use so that the drivers adapt to the requests and needs of the passenger. Reservations must be made at least 10 minutes in advance, but more in advance helps to guarantee the best possible service.
To become a user of the service, all you have to do is download the free elMeuBus app (available in iOS or Android stores) on your mobile phone and register. Once registered, the person can request the bus indicating the stop number where they will get on and the point where they will get off. Reservations can also be made by calling a free phone number.
TMB, the city’s public transit operator, has also ensured that citizens will become well-acquainted with the new service. Apart from the standard informational campaign, which has been ongoing since the end of August, there are mentors posted at the 180-line stops.
In addition, several training workshops have been held, which have allowed residents who will be able to benefit from the new service to learn firsthand how to download the app, register and make reservations. The app also allows you to easily cancel a reservation, check the history, mark favourite stops, receive service change notices or find out the waiting time until the requested bus arrives.
