Building upon previous successful campaigns

In order to apply for the title of European Sports City, the team of Elva municipality had to compile an application book, in which an overview of the sports field of Elva municipality was presented together with the activities planned for the title year and the development goals for the field of sports in general.

But Elva has a long history of involving sports in local everyday life – this was recognized when at the end of 2019, the municipality was awarded the title of the most sporty local government in Estonia.

Elva's deputy mayor Marika Saar said that she was certain that Elva would get the title. "I am glad that the title of the most sporty local government in Estonia is followed by recognition at the European level. Elva is really very sporty, as shown by the activities of various sports clubs as well as the abundance of various sports events throughout the year, " she stated, adding that Elva's beautiful natural environment cannot be left out, which offers many opportunities for outdoor sports.

The title gives Elva municipality the opportunity to market the rich natural environment and sporty atmosphere both in Estonia and in Europe.
