18 members have taken up their seats at the newly established Bristol “One City” environmental board
A few months ago, the local government of Bristol created the city’s first ever Environmental Board with the specific goal of helping the administration on its journey towards making the city more fair, healthy and sustainable by 2050 through their “One City” plan. The plan itself was launched in January 2019 and work on its specific goals is expected to begin in 2020.
The environmental board will play a prominent role in the issues concerning the environment, societal impact on climate and other similar related topics. Its work will be supported by the City Council. When the vacancies for the board were announced, the local government received over 70 applications from citizens possessing the necessary knowledge and qualifications help the city change and meet the challenges of the future. The credentials were reviewed by a diverse panel made up of a representative from the Bristol City Council, the Bristol Green Capital Partnership director as well as an academic specialised in environmental issues.
On the topic of establishing the Bristol environmental board, the mayor of the city, Marvin Rees, stated that “It is incredible to see so much willingness to support this new Board and the wider environmental agenda of our One City Plan. It reflects our ambition of progressing towards environmental sustainability and our commitment to making Bristol carbon neutral.”.
