Bucharest Municipality tests for free 11,000 volunteers for Covid-19

The Romanian capital joins other major European cities that already apply the principle of extensive testing

Since 13:00 o’clock on Friday, 22 May, the Municipality of Bucharest has launched a Covid-19 testing program for 11,000 volunteers, informed the mayor Gabriela Firea on her Facebook profile. The residents of the Romanian capital could be tested for the new coronavirus thanks to the free campaign of the City Hall.

Firea also informs that Real-Time PCR tests will be used as part of the campaign. The City Hall covers testing costs of RON 200 (41.29 euros) for each volunteer.

All the volunteers can register and benefit from the testing on the special dedicated online platform. In this way, Bucharest joins other major European cities that already apply the principle of extensive testing.

Asymptomatic people can join the health initiative

An important piece of information for the residents of Bucharest who are asymptomatic is that they can join the initiative and register on the platform. All the people who fill out the special form on the website and are accepted in the program will receive a registration number. After that, they will receive a confirmation e-mail, and then they will have to wait to be contacted for the testing.

People will be scheduled for testing at one of the 20 accredited laboratories, belonging to the 20 state and private clinics affiliated to the project. A dedicated call center for the people enrolled in the program is also established.

Another testing campaign will also be started later this week. A total of 10,500 Bucharesters will be tested for coronavirus antibodies within this social initiative, which will indicate people who have developed an immune response to the Covid-19 infection.

The news for the test campaign for Covid-19 in Bucharest was announced at the end of the month of March. The initial plan of the Health Ministry was to test all of the residents of Bucharest. In practice, however, it turned out that is possible to test less than 2,000 people per day at that time.
