The tourist region of Nassfeld-Pressegger See-Weißensee-Lesachtal in Carinthia focuses on nutrition and regional recycling management
The tourist region of Nassfeld-Pressegger See-Weißensee-Lesachtal located in Carinthia, Austria, can now see itself as a good example for climate protection. The region will receive one million euros from the federal government in order to take additional measures focused on nutrition and regional recycling management.
Even though it is uncertain when tourism will be able to reopen again due to the pandemic, climate protection is becoming more important to the travel and holiday industry. Along with Zell am See and Kaprun, which are well-known tourist destinations in Austria, the area around Nassfeld and Weissensee in Carinthia is also becoming an international role model in climate protection.
Carinthia has set itself the goal of investing in renewable energy and regional food production to reduce CO2. There should be 30 percent meat-free dishes on the menus in hotels and restaurants to help minimise the effect of climate change. A “Sustainability House” with advisory service will support businesses through the process of turning towards green practices and a regional food delivery service with an electric vehicle is also planned.
Lastly, most of the electricity in the region is to be generated from renewable energy. Carinthia will introduce climate-friendly travel options for tourists and vacationers and it will support holiday travelling with public transport. All of this is to be expanded further, under the heading “a world of the good life for locals and holidaymakers”. The option of whether the railway from Hermagor to the Nassfeld valley station in Tröpolach can be extended will also be considered and the implementation of the projects is planned for the year 2024.
