Cascais is the European Youth Capital for 2018

The European Youth Capital initiative encourages cities to both continue and expand the implementation of new ideas and innovative projects with regard to the active participation of young people in society

The European Youth Capital seeks to combine global and local dimensions, towards the process of social transformation, under the theme “Local Youth”. The EYC initiative seeks to present a role model for the further development of youth policies in other European municipalities. Since the first European Youth Capital was awarded to Rotterdam in 2009, the title has been awarded to Turin, Antwerp, Braga, Maribor, Thessaloniki, Cluj-Napoca and Ganja.

Cascais 2018 will develop in parallel, and together with its different local and international partners, a series of initiatives in which youth takes the leading role. The activities plan covers 13 thematic areas around the main priorities of European and Local youth policies. The central themes of the program include sport, volunteering, employability, the arts, knowledge, structured dialogue, environment, active participation and international mobility.
