The school is covered by 12 000 colorful solar tiles, making it one of the largest building-integrated solar power plants in Denmark
The Copenhagen International School’s new building is covered by 12 000 colored solar panels based on a technology developed at EPFL. This makes it the school’s largest solar facade in the world and one of the largest building-integrated solar power plants in Denmark. The solar tiles completely cover the building and will provide it with 300 MWh of electricity per year, meeting over half of the new campus of Copenhagen International School’s energy needs.
About half of all energy used in Europe is for cooling and heating, but so far renewable only contribute 18% to that. According to the European Commission, the energy efficiency will play a key role in speeding up the transition to clean energy while boosting growth and jobs. This building was described by Mother Nature Network as one of “5 solar-powered buildings that will forever change architecture”.
