Østerbro district will soon have self-driving buses
New green local transport initiative is being launched in Østerbro. The Copenhagen district will soon boast new driverless buses, announced the Municipality. Their route will include 1.3 km circuit round the new Århusgade quarter in Nordhavn along Murmanskgade, Sandkaj, Gøteborg Plads, Sandkaj, Karlskronagade, Trelleborggade, Corkgade, Århusgade and Murmanskgade. The first two buses are ready and waiting in a garage in Nordhavn. The service is expected to run every day between 10:00 and 18:00.
The initiative is part of the European AVENUE-project aiming to introduce self-driving vehicles in 4 major European cities in the next 4 years. Besides Copenhagen, self-driving buses will be tested on the streets of Geneva, Lyon and Luxembourg. The European co-operation includes 16 partners from 7 European countries. Gothenburg in Sweden has had the same self-driving buses since 2018.
Østerbro is one of the ten districts of Copenhagen. It is located just north of the city centre, outside the old city gate Østerport. Østerbro is a wealthy district, and one of the most affluent areas in Copenhagen.
