Cypriot cities’ public transport systems on the verge of massive makeover

Cypriot cities’ public transport systems on the verge of massive makeover

The new public transport operator in Nicosia and Larnaca promises a state-of-the-art system that will be safe, healthy and efficient

Starting this Sunday, 5 July, the Nicosia and Larnaca public transport systems’ new operator – Cyprus Public Transport (CPT) will boast brand new additions to their fleets and arsenals aimed at making mobility in the cities faster and more convenient for locals.

Embracing 21st century solutions

The largest change that will come to the public transport network in Nicosia and Larnaca is the addition of new state-of-the-art buses to the operator’s fleet. These brand-new vehicles adhere to the highest possible standards and also boast additional conveniences for passengers – like, for example, functional Wi-Fi and USB charging points.

These new vehicles will travel on the regular routes, as used by the previous operating companies, for the time being but Cyprus Public Transport has announced that it will launch its own new paths, starting October. The changes that will arrive in Autumn are meant to further boost the cities’ connectivity and create ample opportunities for improved mobility.

Another new improvement that is set to be launched on 5 July is the Pame mobile phone application. It will make travel along the routes operated by Cyprus Public Transport cheaper and more efficient by helping users plan out their trips and discover the best and most convenient routes through the provision of real-time updates on schedules and arrivals of buses.

In terms of hygienic measures regarding the spread of COVID-19, CPT is already on top of the issue. The company has announced the introduction of an automatic disinfection process that cleans out each bus within 60 seconds each night, destroying all bacteria and traces of potential infection. According to officials, this is the first time that this type of technology is being made use of in Europe, making CPT trailblazers in its introduction.
