The results of the students’ innovation semester came out

The end of February saw the results of the new students` innovation semester in Dusseldorf. 16 teams comprising of 160 young people took part this year. They were supervised by experts from Heinrich-Heine University, University of Applied Sciences Dusseldorf, Robert Schumann University, Fleidner University of Applied Sciences, public authorities and private companies.

Innovation Semester

This is the second time this semester takes place. The first one was a big success so the organisers decided to hold one more this year. The teams presenting were extremely well-prepared, very socially oriented and combining their knowledge, the science and practical solutions.

The teams had to meet different challenges to create their proposals. One of them, for example, presented a concept for an integrated daily centre with an indoor rock climbing. The audience was particularly amazed by the sound presentation – the integration of the city sounds that could be heard.

There are other proposals worth mentioning – different social applications, board games encouraging democracy and civil society, new business models, sun kiosk and desks for the schools in Africa, etc.

The winner

The winning team comprised of the Pro Training Foundation and the municipal school council. Their project is called “BIWENAV – Bildungswege-Navigator”. It represents an interactive online platform that explains the educational system of Germany in a simple way. It means that young people will have an instrument to see what options they have for their future after school.

The autumn of 2020 will see the third edition of this Innovation semester. Information for it is already available on the site of the event.

This format is unique for Germany and the organisers and participants are all proud and happy of the excellent turnout they had. It is expected to have even more teams participating during the next semester.
