The Forest Week initiative is traditionally held in the first week of April, e.g. 6-12 April. Due to the complicated situation with the coronavirus pandemic, the Executive Agency for Forests (AAG) of Bulgaria cancelled all of its planned events throughout the year.
The Forest Week initiative is celebrated for the 95th consecutive time. Over the course of seven days, there are traditionally various events dedicated to the protection of forests in Bulgaria.
This year, for understandable reasons, the usual celebration of the initiative will not take place the way we all would like. Attendance at events and at Rila Monastery Nature Park has been forbidden, while the events themselves have been scrapped entirely.
To the delight of all lovers of natural beauties, the management of the Rila Monastery Nature Park offers an interesting virtual walk through the park. The park management team will also present conservation initiatives and topics related to the natural resources of the protected area.
Three extremely interesting tree species will be featured in Forest Week. Anyone who wishes to do so can learn all the interesting and curious facts about the Rila oak, Tsar Boris fir and Tis.

Rila Monastery Nature Park is located in the heart of the Rila Mountains and covers territories ranging from 750 to 2700 m above sea level. The virtual walk will introduce tree and animal species in the park, birds, plants, as well as information on hiking trails and eco trails.
The nature park is a protected area that perfectly combines the harsh alpine landscapes with the pastoral colours of the forest habitats. The mountain ridges are cut by the picturesque valleys of the rivers Rila and Iliyna, around which centuries-old forests rise and spread wide meadows inhabited by an exceptional range of animal and plant species.
