Escape rooms as a new recruitment method in Gdansk

The municipal labour office uses the Talent room to discover the strengths of candidates

The Talent development centre at the Gdańsk Labour Office is following the latest trends in the recruitment processes. The escape room as a recruitment method has been growing in popularity lately, which is why the municipal service launched the Talent room.

It works in three stages based on the well-known escape room concept, explains Katarzyna Stasiewicz from the Talent Development Centre. Customers start by attending a short competence workshop. Then they are locked in a room where they perform tasks under the guidance of a career counsellor. They have to find a key and escape within 60 minute. To make it happen, participants must solve a series of puzzles, find hidden hints and secret lockers, as well as decipher messages, find keys and codes.

The third and final stage of the workshop is a summary. It is the most important from the point of view of the entire process - Stasiewicz emphasizes. Participants meet in the workshop room to discuss the results and get feedback on the competences used, which are important for the labour market. They learn how to deal with stress, whether they have leadership skills, how they cooperate with the group, what roles they took in the tasks they perform, etc.

During a joint discussion, they talk about what can be assessed during the performance of individual tasks and what to look for in real recruitment. During the workshop, professional predispositions, reaction to stress or action under time pressure are revealed. The information acquired during the recruitment game helps the participants to work on their strengths and develop key competences.

Talent Room was created for people who want to check, discover or confirm their strengths, and at the same time learn about one of the non-standard recruitment methods. The nearest workshop will take place on Thursday, July 18, at 15, at the Talent Development Centre in Gdańsk. The organizers can accept between three and six people for about 2.5 hours in total.
