France with the heaviest EU taxes

Belgium loses its crown as leader

According to the latest figures from the European statistical office, Eurostat, Belgium has lost its gold medal for the heaviest taxes in Europe. The France’s tax burden – taxes plus social security contributions – amounted to 47.6 % of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and is the highest in the European Union, followed by Denmark (47.3%) and Belgium (46.8%).

The EU countries with the lowest taxes in 2017 are Ireland (23.8%), Romania (26%) and Bulgaria (29%).
