The museum was built to house every artifact found on the rock and on the surrounding slopes, from the Greek Bronze Age to Roman and Byzantine Greece. It also lies over the ruins of a part of Roman and early Byzantine Athens. The Acropolis Museum has a total area of 25,000 square meters, with exhibition space of over 14,000 meters. It receives over 1.5 million visitors annually. The Acropolis Museum continues its course, developing its capacities to meet the increased expectations of visitors and to plan its future dynamically.
