Get ready for the European Heritage Days

Get ready for the European Heritage Days

EHDs allow us to explore our shared cultural heritage and to value diversity

The European Heritage Days (EHDs) are one of the most popular cultural events in Europe. Taking place every September, they unite Europeans from across the continent and showcase how rich, diverse and valuable our common heritage is. Started as an initiative of the Council of Europe in 1985, they were endorsed by the European Union in 1999 and turned into a joint action of the two institutions that lasts successfully till today. Every year, more than 20 million persons attend local events under the Heritage Days and strengthen the European project.

2019 is no exception and we are already looking forward to joining one of the many side events in some 50 participating countries in September. This year’s common theme is Arts and Entertainment and will gather multiple traditions from the continent in various forms - from street shows to concert halls, traditional theatres and museums to modern cinema and digital art. Furthermore, the stages will be located in some of the most remarkable sites that have shaped the continent's art and entertainment.

Find more information about the concrete events to take place in your country, filter your search by the country, category or the date of your choice from this link. Furthermore, the dedicated website enables you to learn more European Heritage Stories, as well as related initiatives and events. So, which one is the first on your bucket list?
