The Latvian city of Liepāja is joining in the celebration of the European Week of Sport with some interesting proposals for its residents. The municipal website informed today that sports enthusiasts will be able to sign up for participation in different sports activities, among which things like night swimming and night cycling stand out.
The authorities of Liepāja are offering an action-packed weekend between 25 and 27 September and residents are invited to register online in advance if they want to participate. The events are organized in partnership with some of the national sports federations of the republic.
Swimming enthusiasts can register by 25 September to participate by going on the organizers’ website.
The swimming event will take place at the LOC Baseins & SPA on the evening of Saturday 26 September and will feature a positive ambiance accompanied by upbeat music and lighting. Participants will be divided into four different groups depending on their skill level: from enthusiasts and families with kids to pro athletes.
Due to the anti-pandemic restrictions group sizes will be limited to 48 people and each swimmer will have half an hour to swim in any style that they wish. After the time is up the swimmers will receive official confirmation of their time and complementary products from the event sponsor Eugesta.
The Night Cycling event will also take place on the evening of 26 September and the riders will have their starting point at the building of the LOC Baseins & SPA pool. Participants for this event will have to register by 21 September register by September here.
Cyclists will be divided into five groups and each one will be given a map which they will have to follow in order to reach certain checkpoints. This will give an opportunity for residents to discover their city from a different point of view and experience it at an unusual time of the day.
Apart from the Night Swimming and Night Cycling events, there will also be a Night Orienteering competition on Friday evening, 25 September and a “BeActive” hike, which will also contain orienteering elements but will take place during the day on Sunday, 27 September.
