How to stay in a castle and not break the bank?

How to stay in a castle and not break the bank?

With 1,000 kilometers of coastline, Sicily offers plenty of beach options ranging from sandy smooth to dramatic rock formations

Want to spend an unforgettable summer vacation and stay in a castle then go to Sicily. When it comes to hotels, this amazing Italian island is more about independent properties, many in historic settings, than big-name international brands. In Palermo the Butera 28 Apartments in the landmark Palazzo Lanzo Tomasi, where Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, author of The Leopard lived, range from €75 (standard); €160 (superior); €190 (deluxe) a night. On the coast, an hour from Agrigento, the Castello di Falconara with a history reaching back to the 14th century, has sweeping sea views, charming rooms  and a pool. Rates are €150-200 a day for a double.

In Sicily the summer is long and sybaritic, warm weather comes early and leaves late and the travel experience especially rich: Greeks, Romans, Arabs, along with most every European power in the Middle Ages and Renaissance, left their mark on the island’s culture, art and architecture. With 1,000 kilometers of coastline, Sicily offers plenty of beach options ranging from sandy smooth to dramatic rock formations.
