In yet another twist Italian Government relaxes measures a bit

People will be able to travel to another municipality on the most special days

Earlier this month, the authorities in Italy placed fairly severe restrictions on the mobility of citizen during the holiday period, partially owed to increasing COVID-19 mortality rates, partially to prevent further infections as it has become a common trend to impose travel limitations across Europe.

Yesterday, however, part of these restrictions were reversed in order to allow at least a possibility for many to not be alone on those special days. As per the amendments, now people will be able to travel to another municipality within their regions, but not to another region. This relaxation only applies to the following days: 24, 25, 26, 27 and 31 December, and 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 January.

Lockdown measures are experiencing a yo-yo effect

The new loosening of measures is seen as a gesture to elderly people many of whom have experienced anxiety about being alone and potentially helpless during the holidays.

However, these relaxations come with their own conditions and do not signify the complete removal of the lockdown – quite the opposite. Any trips undertaken in those days can happen only outside of curfew hours, meaning between 5:00 and 22:00.

Additionally, only two adults can travel together. Children under 14 can be brought freely as they are not included in the traveling limit and restrictions do not apply to them.

As for the days of 28, 29, 30 December and 4 January, the Government has decreed that outside of curfew hours people can freely move within their municipality in order to visit relatives and friends, while still keeping the 2-adult limit. And what is more once a day during those 4 days they will have the right to also visit another municipality as long as it is within the same region.
