Almost 140 000 people have cast their vote in the national contest for Mayor of the Year
Taking place in Lisbon in April 2020, TheMayor.EU is a partner of the event
The Urban Future Global Conference 2020 is coming to the Portuguese Capital of Lisbon at the start of April next year. It will bring together representatives of many cities and municipalities, researchers, innovators and scientists, national and regional governments, NGOs, businesses, architects and urban planners and of course many start-ups.
Together they will be tinkering away, trying to present concrete measures and solutions to modern problems like climate change, rising inequalities and the role that cities and urban environments play in the development of a better, fairer and healthier world.
Across a total of 85 sessions hosting 300 speakers, the thousands of attendees and city representatives will delve deep into what is bound to be an extraordinary event which will bring forward concrete measures aimed at tackling the many everyday problems which plague any urban centre.
The choice to host the UFGC20 in Lisbon is also quite deliberate. The Portuguese capital was recognized as “European Green Capital 2020” for its efforts in combating pollution, climate change and generally becoming greener in the past decade. The local governments of Lisbon have truly managed to create a people-friendly city, incorporating different solutions and good practices to make lives better for the local population.
The organizers of the UFGC20 are absolutely convinced that cities are the key to a sustainable future. Local authorities and stakeholders, decision makers and ordinary citizens – they will pave the way towards a fairer, greener and healthier world – and it all starts in an urban environment.
With the world rapidly changing and developing, so too is the conference. Each year, the main focus areas of the UFGC change slightly, to reflect the most recent developments and problems faced by local governments and citizens. This year’s 4 main themes are as follows:
