Do you have extra socks? Bring them to the town hall of Jihlava and help those in need
Cold winter weather can be critical for homeless people. This is why Jihlava Town Hall will be joining an initiative to help them spend the winter season a little more conveniently. The Winter Sock Challenge (Ponožková výzva) has a very simple purpose – to warm those in need when temperatures go down.
To do this, a local initiative will be collecting new and unused warm socks. Many organisations and private individuals have already joined it, including the Municipality of Jihlava. The Tourist Information Centre housed in the historic town hall on Masaryk Square will be one of the collection points for socks for homeless people.
The campaign was launched on 21 November when collection boxes were installed in front of cafes, cultural institutions and other participating places. The goal is to bring the campaign as close to the people as possible and to facilitate their involvement. New and older socks can be donated, as long as they are washed and not torn. Warm knitted gifts are also much appreciated by the organizers of the collection initiative. In addition to individual donors, the call is also addressed to other organisations who would like to place a collection box in their establishment.
