The launch of a training programme regarding local biodiversity was announced in Kildare
When it comes to biodiversity, information is crucial - as it the training of local authorities and citizens.
Kildare in Ireland boasts a rich natural environment – grasslands, woodlands, rivers and canals and several protected species. That is why it is of great importance to have an adequate plan for the protection of this wildlife.
The Kildare City Council announced a new biodiversity project in line with their Local Biodiversity Action Plan. Its main goal is to provide training on the key features of local biodiversity. This training will be delivered to ten communities within the county.
The activities listed include practical skills in the area of biodiversity protection. They will serve as a basis for the creation of a specific Biodiversity Action Plan in their local communities.
The project was assigned to Green Pine Consultants and Fiona MacGowan. The company represents a group of environmental consultants and landscape architects who have already completed several biodiversity planning projects. Ms. MacGowan is a consultant in the field of ecology and botany.
It is expected for the initiative to make a difference within the selected communities, at first, and within the wider community, at a later stage. The first wave of trainings may also result in the initiation of different pilot projects in the next years.
Kildare LEADER Partnership was launched in the middle of February and will continue to the middle of April. It is free of charge for the participants. A special emphasis will also be put on funding. The LEADER programme can provide financing for projects that focus on analysis and development as well as on biodiversity and sustainable water management.
The European LEADER programme supports local development initiatives in different fields. The funding comes from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Department of Rural and Community Development.
