The Climate Pact will pave the way for a greener and healthier Europe
Earlier today, the official launch ceremony of the European Climate Pact was held in a digital format. The event was attended by many high-ranking EU officials, including Vice President of the Commission Frans Timmermans, who also spearheads the EU executive’s flagship Green Deal Policy.
The Climate Pact launched earlier today by the European Commission will provide a shared space for citizens, businesses, institutions and NGOs to connect and jointly work on solutions that would allow the EU as a whole to achieve its climate objectives.
According to the Commission, the sharing and joint development of ideas and initiatives is the best way to make use of Europe’s diversity and strengths and focus them on a single task – namely fighting against climate change. Anyone can join and sign up to the Climate Pact and contribute to its overarching goal – and that is precisely the point – to involve as many people as possible in the battle of a lifetime.
During the official launch ceremony, the European Commission further hammered on the need to include as many citizens as possible in the fight against climate change by announcing its partnership with the Count Us In campaign.
Through the partnership, a new multi-lingual version of the Count Us In platform will be launched in the summer of 2021 which citizens, schools, cities and communities can use in order to better themselves and take action in the fight to protect the environment.
During the launch, Executive Vice-President Timmermans stated that “When it comes to tackling the climate crisis, every step matters. Anyone can take action, and everyone can contribute. Our partnership with Count Us In will enable everyone in Europe to make a change for the climate, and make it count!”
