U-Bahn stations, containers, hotels..there is a variety of ways to help homeless people
Homelessness in Germany has risen dramatically in recent years. The statistic shows that there are more young people than ever before, as well as more women and more disabled people. Two-thirds of these people have a foreign passport, with most coming from eastern Europe and Baltic and Balkan cities.
Every city chooses the best way to protect and help the homeless people from the cold winter. Most often, the cities’ strategies include keeping open the U-Bahn stations in the night and offering emergency accommodation and short-term leased rooms in simple hotels. There are also spaces available per night for the dogs of homeless people in the animal welfare associations.
Tell us how your country helps homeless people during the winter? Write us at office@themayor.eu and we will spread the word.
