To save them the risks of going shopping and contracting coronavirus
Luxembourg has launched a service to help the most vulnerable members of society get the products of first necessity, amid the situation of limited mobility and social distancing. A special platform called corona.letzshop.lu supports those who are not able to make the purchases themselves, due to the Covid-19 menace.
Corona.letzshop.lu was launched on 19 March 2020. It uses the infrastructure of the existing letzshop.lu (a nation-wide online shopping platform) but is reserved ultimately to those in need, in view of the special circumstances. Its purpose is to allow them to receive what they need without risking their health by personally going to the shop.
The new platform thus offers a home delivery service, including more than 40 basic products, such as rice, pasta, milk, fruits and vegetables. In order to reach all vulnerable people, it can also be accessed via telephone on 8002 92 92.
Corinne Cahen, Minister of Family and Integration, quoted by the governmental website also stressed that "we absolutely have to protect vulnerable people. The new platform is a key element in this process because it allows affected people to get their supplies safely. I would also like to emphasize once again that in this period of crisis, solidarity plays a more important role than ever and I, therefore, invite citizens to use this platform only if they are considered as vulnerable people and that they have no other way to get their supplies."
This includes people over the age of 65 and people who suffer from diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease, who have cancer or a weak immune system due to illness or therapy. Any vulnerable person who can use another means of supply (family members, scouts, etc.) is asked not to use this site or the telephone number. The letzshop.lu site nevertheless remains open to the general public.
The platform is available in French and German languages.
Luxembourg remains with 335 confirmed coronavirus cases and 4 deaths (as of 19 March 2020).
