A stunning complex of three different sites, this expansive museum features a wealth of discoveries. Through the museum's galleries as well as lectures and film screenings, visitors can explore the history of Mediterranean civilization. The museum, built "of stone, water and wind", was designed by the architect Rudy Ricciotti in collaboration with the architect Roland Carta. Every first Sunday of each month, the MuCEM opens its doors for free! This ultramodern museum is gigantic so you'll almost certainly have to come back to see it all. So make the most of your stay and visit all the three stages.
The newest part of the museum is built on the former J4 Pier by the architect Rudy Ricciotti. This section addresses themes such as the invention of gods, the treasures of the spice route, the visions of Jerusalem, and the Seven Wonders of the World. The second stage of the museum is located in the vaulted rooms of the Fort Saint-Jean, a historic monument that dates back to the 12th century. The Fort Saint-Jean also has spectacular Mediterranean gardens accessible by a suspended footbridge over the sea. Here, visitors can enjoy a scenic stroll and take in the panoramic views of the coastline. The third site is the Conservation Center (located in the Belle de Mai quarter), which offers a behind-the-scenes look into the work of the museum.
