New “21st Century” university to be built in Milton Keynes

This will be the first university anywhere designed as a response to the challenges facing cities today and in the future

The plans to create digital skills university for Milton Keynes are already unveiled. The brand new “21st Century” university in Milton Keynes will be the first university anywhere designed as a response to the challenges facing cities today and in the future. Currently known as MK:U, the new university is a key part of achieving Milton Keynes’ long-term vision, which envisages the city growing up to 500,000 people by 2050 and being at the heart of the Cambridge, Milton Keynes and Oxford innovation corridor.

MK:U will provide a curriculum in key areas including digital, cyber, autonomy, robotics and artificial intelligence. It will cater for 5,000 students, with the first arriving in 2023. In each of the university’s key areas of focus, there will be a lead business partner. Some of the educational, technological and industrial partners, for now, include Grant Thornton, MK College, Microsoft and Tech Mahindra. The aim is to create a smart university for a smart city.
