New college helping the homeless to open in Leicester

The city council will be working with the charity St. Mungo’s to help locals experiencing homelessness

The Leicester City Council is very proud to announce its cooperation with the homelessness charity St. Mungo’s in the opening a new college aimed to get people in severely disadvantaged situations back on track. With the assistance of local businesses, the college which will be situated in Leicester’s Dawn Centre, is set to offer a variety of courses aimed at helping individuals live independently. Among the skills which are set to be taught at the college are digital competences, literacy and numeracy. Furthermore, enrollees will find courses in arts, confidence-building and health and wellbeing.

The St. Mungo’s charity has already opened two very successful colleges – one in Bristol and one in London. The city mayor of Leicester, Sir Peter Soulsby, stated that “It is great news for Leicester that St Mungo’s has chosen to open its first new Recovery College here, and also a reflection on the city’s commitment to addressing homelessness.”.

St. Mungo’s Recovery Colleges have a proven track record of lifting people out of homelessness. According to the Leicester City Council, the charity has already successfully helped hundreds of individuals and its presence in the city will further improve the administration’s valiant efforts in combating homelessness and its causes and effects.
