New Green points opened across Cypriot municipalities

New Green points opened across Cypriot municipalities

The network currently includes 23 Green Points and four mobile units

The establishment of a Green Point network in Cyprus is part of the government’s broader strategy for waste management. The strategy addresses the urgent need to reduce waste production, and promote separate collection, reuse, recycling, and reducing landfills. As part of the strategy, the construction and operation of Green Point networks promotes the separate collection of waste.

The Green Points are a defined, properly designed and structured space with suitable facilities and equipment so that the citizens may deposit free. Residents can separately bring items such as furniture, electronic equipment, green waste, construction waste and garbage not collected on a weekly basis by local authorities. The citizens will be able to carry their waste to the Green Bring-In Sites for free by putting it in the relevant waste bin. The responsibility for the collection, disposal and treatment of green waste, as well as other recyclables, lies with the local authorities.

The network, currently includes 23 Green Points and four mobile units, one in each district. Four in the Paphos district, four in Limassol, six in Larnaca-Famagusta, one in Strovalos and eight in Nicosia. In the Nicosia district, eight Green Points are operational, and more will be added.
