There are only 7 days left until the launch of the new 4-km section on Line 3 of the Sofia metro - the route from Krasno Selo through Ovcha Kupel to the Ring Road at Gorna Banya. On Facebook, the mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova explained that the commuters expected to use the subway can reach 500,000 per day.
On 24 April, the four kilometres from the third Sofia metro line through "Ovcha Kupel" will be put into operation. “We have built the entire third line of the metro from 2016 to 2021 - in less than 5 years, new 12 km … and we are ready to continue," wrote the mayor.
In connection with the precarious situation in which the country finds itself (a new parliament formed only this week and the government has resigned), Fandakova explained that she expects the new national assembly and government to decide as soon as possible on the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The Plan provides funds for the further expansion of the third line and the construction should take place this fall.
The section to "Ovcha Kapel" station is 4 kms long, with 4 new stops, one of which is linked to the national railway network with a railway terminal. The passengers on the line will be able to reach the centre of Sofia in 12 minutes from Ovcha Kupel.
The opening ceremony of the four new stations - "Ovcha Kupel", "Mizia / New Bulgarian University", "Ovcha Kupel 2" and "Gorna Banya" will be on 24 April, at 10 am at "Mizia / New Bulgarian University" on Montevideo Boulevard, and at 12 o'clock the trains will start carrying passengers. As is traditional, on the opening day, the rides will be free.
