7 ideas will receive funding thanks to participatory budgeting in Paris
More than 120 000 Paris citizens have voted in September for the participatory budgeting of the city. Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, and Pauline Veron, in charge with local democracy and participation, have announced the winning project on the 2nd of October. Over 31.7 millions euro are going to be invested in energy efficiency, cleanliness, improved access to sports activities, medical care and mobility.
The participatory budgeting is a form of local democracy, operating in five stages. All residents of Paris, regardless of age or nationality, have the opportunity to propose a project idea online, under the form of investment idea. The propositions must be of general interest and are subject to selection by local authorities’ representatives and citizens. Eventually is for the citizens to vote and decide who receives funding.
