Pilsen to host unique drone festival this weekend

Dronfest will take place on 2-3 October both physically and virtually

This weekend, the Czech City of Pilsen will host one of the largest drone events in the world. After a year’s break, Dronfest will take place on 2-3 October at the SIT Port Complex in Cukrovarská Street. What is more, the festival’s organisers will also make the event available online so that as many people as possible can attend.

Showcasing the latest technologies

The 2021 edition of Dronfest will offer a rich programme and feature a variety of activities. Experts and interesting guests will hold lectures on various topics, presenting the latest developments and trends in drones. Furthermore, there will be FPV (First Person View) races and competitions, with drones flying at over 100 kilometres per hour.

In a press release, the director of the Information Technology Administration of the City of Pilsen Luděk Šantora revealed that the Army of the Czech Republic will discuss the use of drones in connection to international missions. Beyond this, experts from Air Traffic Control, Civil Aviation Authority, and the Ministry of Transport will talk about autonomous drones and new legislation.

Mayor of Pilsen Martin Baxa commented on the city’s use of drones, highlighting that Pilsen has cooperated with the integrated rescue system, police, firefighters, and rescuers over the years. In addition to this, Baxa noted that there are many other areas in which drones can prove to be useful.

“It is therefore logical that Pilsen organises such a unique festival, which was even ranked among the best events of its kind in the world. The fact that thousands of people from home and abroad attend every year testifies to its success,” Baxa commented.

As previously stated, the 2021 edition of Dronfest will also take place virtually. According to Šantora, this is a novelty that has been prompted by the events of the past year. The online transmission will feature moderators and commentators who will ensure that the virtual format of the event is just as successful as the physical.
