Poland “grows” with 15 new cities

The settlements will gain city status on 1 January 2023

As of 1 January 2023, 15 settlements in Poland will gain city status, as the Association of Polish Cities (Miasta.pl) informs. These are existing towns, which have been approved to become cities, by the Committee on Local Government with the Ministry of Interior and Administration of Poland. The body has also approved changes to the borders of some of the existing communes, to reflect on the urbanization processes and territorial development.

Which are the new Polish cities, from 2023?

The following towns will become the newest Polish cities at the start of next year:

  • Miękinia - in the Średzki poviat (county), in the Dolnośląskie voivodship (Province);
  • Jeżów - in the Brzeziny poviat, in the Łódź Voivodeship;
  • Dąbrowice - in the Kutno Poviat, in the Łódź Voivodeship;
  • Rozprza - in the district of Piotrków, in the voivodeship of Łódź;
  • Ujazd - in the Tomaszów poviat, in the Łódź voivodeship;
  • Książ Wielki - in the Miechów poviat, in the Małopolskie Voivodeship;
  • Czarny Dunajec - in the Nowy Targ Poviat, Małopolskie Voivodeship;
  • Latowicz - in the Minsk poviat, in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship;
  • Bodzanów - in the Płock Poviat, Mazowieckie Voivodeship;
  • Jastrząb - in the Szydłowiec poviat, in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship;
  • Jadów - in the Wołomin Poviat, Mazowieckie Voivodeship;
  • Włodowice - in the Zawiercie poviat, in the Silesian Voivodeship;
  • Łopuszno - in the Kielce Poviat, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship;
  • Piekoszów - in the Kielce Poviat, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship;
  • Miasteczko Krajeńskie - in the Piła poviat, in the Greater Poland Voivodeship.

Such administrative changes are taken into consideration every year in Poland. Obtaining city status is very important as it gives prestige and opportunities for development. Moreover, it is associated with tangible benefits, such as boosting investment attractiveness or the possibility of applying for funds related to the development of urban areas.
