Saint Gilles gives 9,000 euros for local environmental projects

Saint Gilles gives 9,000 euros for local environmental projects

The Belgian municipality will fund climate actions with social impact

European cities are getting increasingly engaged with protecting the environment. Furthermore, some of them are bringing environmental action even closer to the citizens, by allocating separate budgets for green projects. Such is the Belgian city of Saint Gilles, located in the Brussels Capital Region. Recently the local authority has launched a call for proposals open to local citizens to help them fund their environmental actions.

Associations, persons, schools, businesses or enterprises based in the commune can apply and receive up to 3,000 euros for a project. The total financial amount available for the action is of 9,000 euros which will be funded from the budget of St Gilles.

The proposals should aim to improve the social cohesion and preserve the environment at the local level and have climate as their central topic. Preference will be given to innovative, participatory ideas that aim to improve the quality of life and that integrate cultural or didactive aspects. The financial aid from the city can cover expenses related to the investment or operation, remuneration of subcontractors, experts, technicians, staff or temporary workers.
