Bulgaria has awarded its best mayors for 11th year in a row
Almost 140 000 people have cast their vote in the national contest for Mayor of the Year
It is the third consecutive year when the Pearl of the Carpathians wins the award
Sinaia is a Romanian mountain resort, located in Prahova County in Bucegi Mountains, 140 kilometres north of the capital Bucharest. At the World Ski Awards this year Sinaia was named Romania's Best Ski Resort for 2019. The event was held in Kitzbuhel, Austria.
It is the third consecutive year when Sinaia wins the award. Sinaia is known as the Pearl of the Carpathians. It is both a touristic and a balneo-thermal resort. Having the Peles Castle near by adds to the natural beauty of the area.
The winter season in Sinaia starts in December and continues until April. The ski slopes cover 22 km in several valleys: Dorului Valley, Fir-tree Valley, Carp Valley and Sun Valley.
Historically, the Bucegi Mountains and Prahova Valley form the first touristic region in Romania. This attractiveness is due to the spectacular sights and easy access by roads and railways. Sinaia became a touristic attraction in 1875, when the Peleș Palace, Pelisor Palace and also the construction of the Ploiesti – Brasov railway started. Later, in 1922, mountain chalets were built in the Bucegi mountains.
The other nominees from Romania for the Best Ski Resort 2019 title were Arena Platos Paltinis, Azuga, Poiana Brașov, Predeal, Ranca, Straja, Vatra Dornei, and Vidra Transalpina.

The initiative World Ski Awards has been launched in 2013 to drive up standards within the ski tourism industry by rewarding the organisations that are leaders in their field. Votes are cast by professionals working within the ski industry and by the public online at the website of World Ski Awards.
