These are the opinions of the people of the Grand Duchy on subjects, such as vaccination, booster shots, children getting the jab and others
Yesterday, science.lu published their study on the population’s mood regarding COVID-19 and vaccination, as well as the confidence level in the government. According to the study, the majority of people are in favour of booster shots and vaccines for 5 to 11-year-olds.
The recent wave of protests against pandemic measures has caused quite a stir in a country where protests, in general, are relatively rare. The police were forced to use water cannons last weekend and protestors found their way to Prime Minister Xavier Bettel’s house.
Despite the daily palpable tension, when it comes to pandemic measures in the Grand Duchy, the survey revealed a calm, composed majority, focused on getting the vaccine.
The study was conducted between 27 November and 5 December, through an online questionnaire, as well as through on-the-ground research. In total, the science team interviewed 600 people, both men and women, divided into age groups, 18 to 34, 30 to 50 and over 55.
Around half of the people (53%) are of Luxembourgish origin and the rest had a foreign background.
According to the survey, 87% of the vaccinated had already received a booster shot or planned to get one, while 56% of all respondents had a positive view of vaccination for children between 5 and 11 years. The latter figure grew, however, to 66% among parents themselves.
At the same time, just 1% of the population said they still want to get vaccinated, while a firm 11% said they did not want the Covid jab. Furthermore, 68% have confidence in the current government’s capabilities to tackle the fuel, sustainability and health crises.
The big surprise, though, was the fact that around 6% of the people surveyed said they had gotten vaccinated abroad. According to the researchers, this could mean that there is an even bigger group of people that have received their vaccine outside of Luxembourg.
If this is the case, then the vaccination rate in the Grand Duchy is higher than what the official data says. The latest numbers on the vaccination rate in Luxembourg have put the country at 72% of the population with at least one dose of the vaccine.
