10 000 Santas will be raising funds for UNICEF
Paraphrasing the slogan of Marx’ and Engels’ Communist Manifesto “Workers of all lands unite!”, 10 000 Santas from all over the world are meeting today in Tallinn – remotely. The white-bearded old men (and a number of ladies, too) will engage in a noble cause - to raise funds for UNICEF and assure downcast children and adults that 'Christmas is not cancelled and Santa will come!'
The Global Virtual Santa Claus Congress is taking place thanks to the cooperation between the Santa Claus offices of Estonia (leader in e-services), Finland and the United States, who want to bring the Christmas spirit to every corner of the world amid the coronavirus restrictions.
The program of the event includes greetings from Santa Clauses from 102 countries including Finland, the USA, New Zealand, Australia, Russia and Japan, a brief overview of the world's Christmas traditions and a musical performance by the Santa Claus ensemble. Apart from the merriment, the participants will discuss down-to-earth topics such as children and family safety, preserving the cultural heritage, etc.
Now you have a chance to peek in the Santa’s secret Christmas community, by logging onto the Congress’ dedicated site where a live stream will start at 5 PM (UTC +2). Donations are optional but welcome and can be made via the website.
