The Municipality assures them that the initiative will go forward no matter the situation
Summer is still far away and with the uncertainty that surrounds us daily many people feel apprehensive about making plans for later during this year. So, it is a welcome piece of news that comes from the Latvian municipality of Daugavpils, which has informed its residents aged between 15 and 19 that they can start applying for its summer employment programme on 6 February and rest assured that it will take place regardless of the sanitary conditions.
The authorities are not being careless, though. Their confidence simply stems from the fact that we are now entering the second year of an extraordinary situation so there is some collected experience in the process. Last summer, the employment programme went through without a hitch despite the pandemic situation and enough lessons have been learnt to keep doing things the right way.
The Municipality also informed that, as usual, priority will be given to teenagers from large and low-income families in a commitment to social equality and providing equal opportunities for all. That means that according to their particular status, the youngsters will be divided in three separate groups for registration.
Young people from large families can register from 6 until 12 February inclusive. Those from low-income families will do the process 13-19 February, and all the rest 19-26 February. The registration itself will be done electronically by going to the ‘Employment’ section of the municipal Youth Department website (www.jaunatne.daugavpils.lv).
Those who are confirmed for the programme (with the results being announced on 5 March) will then do the second step of registration from 8 until 20 March inclusive. This step will require taking personally to the Youth Department office three pieces of documentation: a passport or a birth certificate; medical certificate signed by a GP and a parental certificate (for those under 18).
Finally, the results of the distribution of work placements among employers, and respective schedules will be published on the same website on 19 April.
