Every year in the estate of Chaumont-sur-Loire Castle, artists from all over the world create contemporary gardens on a specific theme
Every year in France the grounds of the beautiful Chateau de Chaumont are host to the International Garden Festival of Chaumont. Each year there is a different theme. The garden festival began in 1992 and has since become a key part of the gardening calendar. Garden designers from around the world compete to design one of the 30 or so show gardens in the grounds of the castle. The theme of this 27th edition is “gardens of thought”.
The visitor walks through the paths of the park in a sort of open-air contemporary landscape art museum. All the landscape installations evolve during the 6 months they are on display, as the rules state that the garden must be at its most beautiful in autumn. Also worth a look are the 20 contemporary art exhibits and installations, sculptures and photographs in the Castle and the Park, focusing on the theme of nature.
