Theme 2019: Astonishing thought
With roughly 70 000 visitors annually and hundreds of activities, the International Science Festival in Gothenburg is one of Europe’s leading popular science events and the only one of its kind in Sweden. The main goal of the organizers is to make science more accessible than ever to schools and general public – promoting a positive attitude to science and research, and encouraging higher study. The Science Festival is also a meeting place for the research community.
The Science Festival is divided into three branches - the public programme, the school programme and the specialist programme. The public program takes place 2-7 April and the theme this year is Astonishing thought. Therefore the festival will look at what happens in our brains when we think. Younger and older scientists will investigate together astonishing thought and the importance of technology for human development.
The programme activities take place at more than 30 locations around the city centre. The science festival aims to keep everything open and accessible, and free of charge, including venues that normally charge an entrance fee. So no tickets or pre bookings are needed. Most of the programme is in Swedish, but there are some activities also in English.
