First polish city to introduce a bonus system for those who get at least one dose of the vaccine against Covid-19

In Valbrich (also spelled as Wałbrzych), vaccinated people will soon pay less for admission at municipal cultural institutions, informs the Polish Association of Cities, quoting PAP Self-Government Service. Valbrich will thus become the first city in Poland to introduce a system of bonuses to encourage residents to get a vaccine against COVID-19.

Vaccination in Valbrich: First carrot, then stick

On Monday, 17 May, the Mayor of Valbrich Roman Szełemej announced on Facebook that there will be special bonuses for those residents who have received at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Tickets to municipal cultural institutions can be at 50% of their regular price for these citizens.

The offer is also valid for the gym at the local sports and recreation complex Aqua Zdrój-Największy. The mayor justified this decision stating that only thanks to vaccinations can we return the normality from before the pandemic.

Various bonuses, including material prizes, will add up to the reduced ticket price, thereby making the Southwestern city the first in Poland to implement a motivational system for vaccination of this sort.

Szełemej also informed that employees of municipal cultural institutions and officials who have frequent contacts with residents and tourists will be fully vaccinated. This aims to ensure that people coming to these institutions will be sure that they are served by people who are not a source of infection.

At a press conference this Monday it also became clear that the city is awaiting a decision by the governor of the Lower Silesia province on the mandatory vaccination of everyone above 18 who works in the city. This resolution was initiated by the Mayor and approved by the city council at the end of April.

Pending said decision, the city of some 111,000 inhabitants near the Czech border decided to waste no time and approach vaccination with stimulus rather than penalties.
