The number of visitors in 2017 reached 1,5 million
Vasa Museum in Stockholm is now the most visited museum in Sweden. It displays a hundreds-of-years-old very well-preserved shipwreck. In 2017 it was visited by 1,5 million visitors, taking the first position away from Sweden's Skansen Museum (open-air and zoo). The number of children visiting the museum has also increased.
Skansen Museum and a number of other sites in Stockholm, however, witnessed a drop in visitor numbers. In 2017, the Swedish Museum of Natural History welcomed 70,000 people less even though in 2016 entrace to the museum became free.
