Work on Croatia’s Regional Tennis Centre begins in Cakovec

The facility will house multiple courts and will allow for games to be played indoors during winter

Earlier last week, construction began on Croatia’s new Regional Tennis Centre at the city of Cakovec. The new facility will house two hardcourts that will provide local aficionados and teams with the opportunity to practice and play even during winter and will be perfect for the hosting of national and international competitions in the future.

Local governments aiding sports ventures

The construction of the new Regional Tennis Centre is a joint venture between the city of Cakovec and the Franjo Puncec tennis club. Together, they have amassed the funding needed for its development, amounting to 1 million kuna (around 136,000 euros). The two parties will split the expenses evenly at 500,000 kuna each.

The first part of the construction will be covered by the City of Cakovec’s budget. The local government’s role in the project is to prepare the grounds for the erection of the pitches and to establish the necessary infrastructure for the deployment of the tennis courts themselves. After that, the Franjo Puncec Tennis Club will purchase the tennis court bubble and will allocate funds for the pitch surface itself.

But that is just the start. During the following phases, additional new infrastructure will be added to the already created Centre – 9 new clay tennis courts, as well as a separate hall housing 4 additional ones, according to the Croatian Tennis Federation. The conditions at the centre, upon its final completion, will be perfect not only for locals and professional to practice the sport but also to host national and international competitions at a place which previously had no such opportunities available to it.
