You can now order a doctor’s visit through Uber Eats in Lisbon

The first city in the world where this service is available

Starting today, Lisbon residents are able to order a visit from a doctor simply by logging into their Uber Eats app on their smartphones. The Portuguese capital has been chosen as the first market in the world to test out this new service by the international delivery and transportation giant.

The ‘Medic at Home’ service became available after signing an agreement with the Ecco-Salva Medical Services – a Portuguese company that specializes in providing healthcare services at home or remotely through phone or computer.

The market fills the gaps in provisions

The cooperation between the two private sector players is yet another example of the increasing rate and expansion of digitization of daily life services, which go beyond the delivery of food and consumer products.

Through their Uber Eats app, users will also be able to request a video or phone consultation with a medical practitioner. The service will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The prices will range from 20 euros for a video or phone consultation to 80 euros if one needs a doctor to come by in person. The caveat, however, is that the service that can be requested is that of a general clinician and not a specialist who works with specific diseases.

Ecco-Salva Medical Services see an opportunity to expand geographically their services this way and Uber Eats gets to also expand on its range of offers, likely pursuing to become a platform where all sorts of daily needs can be covered and delivered to one’s home.

As the Portuguese daily Diário de Noticias reported, citing Ecco-Salva sources, this will not entirely eliminate the inconvenience of waiting to be seen by a doctor, but it will reduce the time to a range of between 30 minutes and 2 hours. Plus, you get to wait in the comfort of your own home.

The service will likely also expand to include physiotherapists and nurses in the future.
