Youth Empowerment Can’t Wait for the Future: Join us at EURegionsWeek 2022!

Save your (digital) place in the high-level session at the most prominent event dedicated to EU’s cohesion policy

Euro Advance Association through www.TheMayor.EU, and in partnership with the European Youth Forum (EJF), are inviting you to a high-level workshop at this year’s edition of the European Week of Regions and Cities. The event will take place online on 12 October, 14:30-16:00 CET and will look at youth empowerment through the lenses of Europe’s young citizens, European and local representatives and academicians.

A high-level debate on youth policies and cohesion

Today's youth are the future heads of state, mayors and commissioners. Their view of EU development is the test of whether the bloc is on the right track. That is why we asked Generation Z about their thoughts on the EU's regional cohesion, how the socioeconomic gaps need to be bridged and whether the tools implemented are working for them. This can serve as a wake-up call for policymakers and the educational sector to make sure that no one is left behind.

This year, honouring the 20th anniversary of EURegionsWeek, we will stimulate a high-profile debate on the challenges experienced by young people and how the EU can be better mobilized to solve them. That is why we designed a special session, with the participation of:

  • Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, who will talk about the policy context and the meeting points between youth and digital transition;
  • Ricardo Rio, Mayor of Braga (Portugal) and Member of the European Committee of the Regions, who will share practices of youth empowerment at the local level;
  • Thomas Lhermitte, A young city councillor from Amiens (France), who will describe what real change for young people looks like in the European Youth Capital;
  • Hristo Andonov, Deputy-Dean for Sports at National Sports Academy (Bulgaria), who will describe how universities can become places for cultivating youth energy and democratic spirit.

What's more, the session will offer a fresh overview of the benefits of local development, such as taking good care of young people in Cluj-Napoca (Romania) and numerous testimonials from young Europeans.
