Zografou’s residents can get rewards for recycling materials at mobile stations

The Greek city is one of 66 participating in the Green City Programme

On September 14, the Greek Municipality of Zografou reported that it has now finalised the areas which will be visited by Mobile Green Recycling Points. These mobile stations are part of a larger programme, namely the Green City Programme, which allows citizens to recycle materials in exchange for benefits from affiliate companies.

The recycling vehicles will now be parked at three locations every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. These locations are the Cyprus Square in Ilisia (9:30-12:00), Anixis Square in Zografou (12:30-14:25) and Georgiou Papandreou in front of AB Vassilopoulos (14:45-15:40).

How does the programme work?

The city’s residents can visit a mobile green recycling point and deposit plastics, aluminium, paper/cardboard, glass, batteries, edible oils, electronic equipment, and clothes, among others. The Municipality of Zografou highlights that all items should be empty of contents and cleaned so that there are no food residues or liquids. Furthermore, edible oils must be transported in plastic bottles or containers and then discarded in special barrels.

Staff at the mobile green recycling points will measure the quantity and weight of products and convert them into points and benefits, rewarding those who recycle items and materials. Points and benefits include vouchers, discounts, and gift cards from affiliate companies such as Samsung, JYSK, SATO A.E and others.

A nationwide initiative

It is important to note that Zografou is not the only city involved in the Green City Programme. That is, a total of 66 municipalities are taking part in this exciting programme and rewarding their residents for recycling goods and materials they no longer need.

To receive points and benefits, citizens must register to participate in the programme in one of three ways. The first way to register is via The Green City application which is available on Google Play and the App Store. Alternatively, one can register at the mobile green recycling points using the touch screens available on site. Lastly, they can use the programme’s website thegreencity.gr to select their municipality and begin receiving rewards.
