Georg Willi was born in Innsbruck on May 6, 1959. In 1977 he passed the Austrian State Exam at the Akademisches Gymnasium Innsbruck and between 1977 and 1978 attended the Abitur graduate course at the HAK Innsbruck.
Willi was first elected to the Innsbruck City Council in 1989. After his first mandate, he went on to become a member of the Tyrolean State Parliament, where he chaired the Greens' group after 2012. In 2012 Willi was elected to the Austrian National Council and in 2018 he became mayor of Innsbruck.
