Mayor of Zabok is Ivan Hanžek. He was born on 19 February 1948 in Zagreb. He finished primary and secondary school in Zabok, and graduated from the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb. In his career he worked in the Zabok Youth League from 1968 to 1971, in Elektri Zabok from 1975 to 1981, at OSO Zabok from 1981 to 1987, in SKH-SDPH from 1987 to 1993, Kastelu-Zabok from 1993 to 2000 and the Croatian lottery in Zagreb from 2000 to 2001.
Ivan Hanžek started his political career as deputy mayor of Zabok from 1993 to 1997. From 2008 to 2011 he also held the function of a parliamentary deputy and was also a member of the delegation at the Regional Council of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.
Hanžek has served as mayor of Zabok since 2001 and member of SDP. In the first round of local elections in 2017, he won 56.15 per cent of the votes cast and continued his mayoral tenure.
